(Available on demand) Moorish heads are typical Sicilian plant-pots, deriving from an ancient legend. During the Muslim conquest of Sicily (827-902 AD)a beautiful girl was spending her time cultivating flowers on her balcony. One morning a young Moor passed below and fell in love with her. The two became lovers till the day that he decided to go back to his homeland, because he was married and had children. The girl waited for the night and then killed the man, intending to preserve that love forever. The morning after she put her lover’s head on the balcony and planted basil in it. Since that day Sicilians created ceramic Moorish head-pots.
